About this service

Generator Maintenance & Plans in Longview TX in Tyler, Longview & East Texas

A standby generator spends almost its entire life waiting. Then an ice storm rolls through East Texas, the grid drops, and it has one job to do — and whether it does that job comes down entirely to how it was maintained during the waiting. Stale fuel varnish, a weak battery, fouled plugs, or degraded oil are the reasons generators fail on the day they were bought for, and every one of them is preventable.

Our service visits cover the full checklist: oil and filter changes, spark plugs, coolant system service, battery inspection and replacement, firmware updates and diagnostic reads, and — critically — testing the automatic transfer switch, because a healthy engine behind a faulty transfer switch still leaves you in the dark. For units that haven't run under real load in a long time, load-bank testing proves the generator can carry its rated output, not just idle convincingly.

Most customers put this on autopilot with an annual maintenance plan: we track the schedule, show up, service the unit, and leave you a record of what was done — useful for warranty claims and for resale. We service standby generators of all major brands across Tyler, Longview, and the surrounding counties, including units we didn't install.

FAQ

Questions we
hear a lot.

Straight answers about generator maintenance & plans in longview tx — and if yours isn't here, call and ask. A real person picks up.

How often should a standby generator be serviced?

Annually at minimum, plus after any extended run — manufacturers typically call for service every 100–200 run-hours as well. Oil breaks down with run time and with age, so even a generator that barely ran last year still needs its annual visit.

Do you service generators you didn't install?

Yes. Generac, Kohler, Cummins, and other major brands — including units that came with a house you just bought. First visit, we'll do a full inspection and diagnostic read so you know exactly what you have and what shape it's in.

What's included in an annual maintenance plan?

The full service checklist on a schedule we track for you: oil and filter, spark plugs, coolant service, battery check, transfer switch test, firmware and diagnostics. You get a written record after each visit, and plan customers get priority when storm-season emergency calls stack up.

What is load-bank testing and does my unit need it?

Load-bank testing puts the generator under controlled, full-rated electrical load to prove it performs — not just starts. It also burns off carbon buildup in units that only ever run lightly loaded. We recommend it for generators that haven't seen a real outage in a year or more and for any unit protecting critical equipment.

My generator won't start. Is that a repair call or a replacement?

Usually a repair — battery, fuel, and ignition issues account for most no-starts and are fixable in one visit. If the unit is genuinely at end of life, we'll tell you straight and quote a replacement so you can compare real numbers instead of sinking money into a dead engine.

I can’t say enough good things about Mark with Chosen 1 Electric. I called him with an immediate need, and he was at my location within 15 minutes. This wasn’t a typical electrical job, and there were several moving parts that had to be coordinated, but Mark stayed the entire time and helped troubleshoot while we worked to get everything in place. What impressed me most was his willingness to jump in and help with things that weren’t even part of his job. He was incredibly patient, professional, and kind throughout the process. When everything was finally ready for him to do his portion of the work, he had it completed in less than five minutes. It’s rare to find someone who is not only knowledgeable and efficient but also genuinely cares about helping their customers. I will absolutely use Mark and Chosen 1 Electric again in the future, and I will gladly refer any customers, friends, or family who need electrical work done. Highly recommend! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
